A series of five three-hour workshops designed to give teachers an instructional foundation of computing. Teachers will be exposed to computer application basics, technology integration fundamentals, and complete an integrated technology project.

SESSION 1: INTRODUCTION TO WORD PROCESSING
This session addresses basic word processing skills including how to enter, edit and format text. Teachers will be introduced to the Microsoft Office drawing toolbar. Various word processing projects will be incorporated into the lesson. In addition to word processing skills development, classroom discussion will focus on word processing in the classroom and the writing process.

SESSION 2: INTRODUCTION TO SPREADSHEETS
In this session, teachers will focus on the fundamentals of spreadsheets including various spreadsheet formats, entering and formatting data, use of formulas and functions, and creating charts. Classroom discussion will focus on the relationship of math skills and the use of spreadsheets.

SESSION 3: INTRODUCTION TO DESKTOP PUBLISHING
This session focuses on developing desktop publishing skills to design newsletters, flyers, and brochures. Publication design using graphics and linked text boxes will be explored as teachers design a newsletter reflecting subject material from their classroom.

SESSION 4: INTRODUCTION TO DATABASES
In this session, teachers will be introduced to the fundamentals of databases including terminology, designing and modifying databases, sorting data, and creating reports. Teachers will create a useful classroom database. Discussion will include various project ideas for the use of databases in the classroom as well as using databases for analyzing data.

SESSION 5: INTRODUCTION TO MULTIMEDIA
Teachers will learn how to create multimedia presentations that include text, graphics, clip art, sound, animation and transitions. Multimedia resources on the Internet (for sounds, clipart and movies) are discussed and investigated.
